What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found (horse stuff)?
Today I went to a 4-H tack sale, and had excellent luck. I got a new western show shirt and slinky (the blouse was $45, the slinky was $25), a black western blanket to go over my saddle pad for shows that will look great with my outfit and my horse ($10), and a white fleece english competition number pad. I think the best thing I found, though, was a pair of black Ariat field boots in really good condition for $60. I haven’t found out what the specific pair of boots is called to check the retail price, but I’m really excited. I’ve also found a brown headstall (that I sold to my trainer, who added a matching noseband and reins) for $5. Now its a full snaffle bridle of a decent quality.

LOL…. I actually went to a clearing sale yesterday 
I actually went to it to buy a gooseneck and truck that was at the auction, but it passed in. I privately went and offered him $20,000 for just the gooseneck but he wanted more.
Two trainers were retiring from the business after many years and their was literally thousands of items. 100′s of bridles, harness, etc. Everything you could think of and more… even a toilet
So I had a look around and found a few things I was interested in. The auctioneer held up a bundle of leather goods and I had no idea what was in the bundle. Because it did not get a bid, he then held up the next item and sold them together.
It just happened to be the leather driving reins I was interested in so I bid and won them for $25. When I got home I found the bundle of leather had several very useful items (breastplates, bridles, nosebands) and the rest were good leather and buckles for repairs or parts.
I then bid on a group of 3 rugs and won them for $20. Two are perfect woollen rugs in mint condition for showing and the other is a heavy cotton rug in top condition also for showing or strong enough for the paddock.
I then bid on a different set of driving reins that are heavy web cotton. I wont them for $25 dollars only to find after I got home that there were actually 3 identical reins in the set. So it can be a spare or a lunge line if needed.
I picked up 3 heavy duty plastic water containers with taps on them for $5. Handy for taking to events.
The only thing I missed out on that I bid for, was a large metal checker plate box. It was a perfect size to go in the front of my float and store gear. The man just kept coming back at me each time I bid, I think he would have just kept going. I could buy a new one for what he ended up paying for it… LOL
I almost bid on a puppy I did not though because I thought my husband would kill me (we already have one dog). They were very nice border collie cross pups and only sold for $5.
On another note, my best bargain ever has to be my horse float. A girl was moving states and had to sell her float, my farrier told me about it. I only paid $2000, it’s the best float and in great condition. To buy the exact same float today, it is worth $6000. I have owned it for 8 years and it has increased in value
I was pretty happy with my little collection, everything useful and fitted the required horses and ponies.
