The word “draft” originally comes from “draught,” an old word that means “to pull something.” From early plows to carriages to fire trucks, draft horses have pulled them all. is riding my horse bare back okay?

my horse is lame right now so i have been just tack walking. she is such a good girl she has been really good when i have been walking so i have been riding bare back with no pad for about the past 2 weeks. i heard that riding bare back can hurt a horses back. if i am just walking is it okay? also she is a big belgian draft cross, she is round and does not have a bony back.
i need to walk her she is recovering from lameness,my vet said to tack walk for the rest of the month before another vet check. she is not that lame any more, just needs more walking she is getting better and i should have put that in before

Riding a horse bare back will not hurt their backs. If you think about it, you’re using less weight on their back by not using a saddle. I love riding bare back, sometimes I prefer it. The horses I rode never had a problem riding bare back and I would assume that your big belgian can handle it.
