Horse Blankets Alberta

Have you ever gone to camp in the summer and watched other people riding horses and wish you could join them? Well, you may not have gotten the chance when you were small, but today, kids from anywhere can go to horseback riding camps for such fun and adventure.

Horseback riding camps provide much more than just merely riding through hills and valleys. Instruction about horse care and grooming are also basic requirements for attending a horse camp. Most riding levels are catered to in horseback riding camps, and they are suitable for both novice and experienced riders who may find themselves fortunate enough to own a horse for the first time in their life.

Taking care of a horse means hours of grooming and lots of time spent with your horse, whether you’re in the stable or enjoying the great outdoors. Horses have personalities too, so don’t be surprised if your new horse, whether you own one, or the one you’ve been assigned to ride in horseback riding camps, demands more of your attention than you thought.

Horseback riding camps teach young people from around seven to eighteen the proper ways to care and groom a horse. They also teach about different kinds of tack, such as saddles, bridles, halters, bits and other horse gear. They teach show riding as well as pleasure riding, with both English and Western saddles. Learning how to canter, trot and post on horseback is covered in riding lessons and multiple other techniques and tactics are learned in horseback riding camps as well.

Many such camps also offer games on horseback, such as hunt and seek and trail riding games geared to teach riders of all ability levels to appreciate the horse they’re riding and to understand what makes a good horse owner.

Horseback riding camps can be found throughout the United States, and are also known as Dude Ranches or Guest Ranches in many western portions of the country. Price ranges vary depending on what exactly you want to do, and some horseback riding camps are geared for children while others are geared for adults. Look on the Internet for horseback riding camps in your area or where you plan to vacation, and you’ll find enough information to at least get you started.

Horseback riding camps can be enjoyed by single individuals or entire families, and experienced counselors and instructors are patient and willing to answer any questions thousands of times. A love of horses and a desire to see them well cared for and protected are what motivates most of these instructors, and they’ll be more than happy to share their experiences with you. Horseback riding camps operate mostly in warm weather months and offer stays from a few days to several weeks.

If you’re looking to do something a little different the next time summer rolls around, consider horseback riding camps whether you own a horse or not. The experiences and fun gained at horseback riding camps will ensure that your stay will be a highlight you’ll remember forever.

What kind of horse………….?

After this school year my family might be moving to Alberta. My grandma has a barn that would be all set up for a horse, and a field to ride in…so shes considering getting me a horse when we move and i’m thinking of what kind to get. I love Quarter Horses, Arabians or Appaloosas but i think they’d be too expensive. Also i’m around 4″2 and i don’t want a huge horse…Is there any kind of horse that’s not as much trouble, medium size and cheaper? (my grandpa has cows so hay wouldn’t be a problem, only the brushes, saddle, blanket, ext.
im 13 years old and i am taking horseback riding lessons (my second lesson is this week) but after i take all 6 lessons im gonna voulenteer there so 1 year around horses

I’m going to be honest as someone who has been with horses for 10 years now, its not something you can do with only a year’s experience and while in school. If you are adamant about keeping a horse, I would try a free lease. This is where you’re paying for the horses needs feed, vet, farrier, teeth, worming ect… basically its the cost of living. This is a good idea because it sound like me your under the impression that hay brushes and a couple pieces of tack are the only things you need to care for a horse. I’d say your about 1/20th of the way there. Horse people say it all the time but it is absolutely and positively true- Buying the horse is the cheapest part.

Now price wise there’s not necessarily a more expensive breed. Maybe some thoroughbreds are expensive because they are being sold as racehorses, and I’ve found friesians have kept their value so they are more expensive right now, but honestly it doesn’t matter as long is the horse is level headed, which reminds me, DON’T get an arabian. They are great horses, and gorgeous, but the opposite of a good first horse. another great reason to do a free lease is because you will be changing a lot. not just your height and weight, but your interests and goals. You may think you wont (I know I thought so too) but you will. Just think back to when you were 11. What clothes did you wear? What music did you listen to? What boy did you like? I swear it will be the same thing. I was leasing a horse a few years ago, I was about 15, and I was completely in love, I loved that he was short (15 hands) I loved his quirky attitude (which I still love) and I loved the way he was kind of a handful. I still love his attitude but everything else has gotten old for me. In my free time I used to look for horses for sale online (just for fun) and a few years ago I would have been looking for short chestnut horses. Now I look a 17 hand friesians! Also you may want to change disciplines, and a lot of times that requires a different horse. Thats another thing that happened to me. When I was in pony club I LOVED to jump and I thought dressage was like watching paint dry. Now I’m struggling because my horse finds dressage as boring as I used to. Hes great at it, but I cant do it for long periods of time because he gets frustrated.

Now another thing is you get what you pay for. Now I stand for what I said earlier, but you just need to know, that if the horse is under 1000 bucks, to put it harshly, it will just be a headache. they are priced that low for a reason and what you pay is what you get. I know there will be people that disagree with me but I don’t care, a good horse will cost at least 3000 dollars, and a great horse will cost at least 7000. Personally, I would pay 10000 rather than regret my decision to buy an ugly, untrained, or untalented horse. because for me, its a long term investment. I’m not about to switch horses or sell one, so I want to make sure its the perfect one.

A breed that I am always an advocate for is the morgan. they are AMAZING horses. Other than the fact they have the best personalities out of any horses I’VE ever met, but they have strong backs, amazing feet (mine goes barefoot) and will excel at anything they do. and they can do anything. My morgan’s mother did western and english, but she also did driving, saddleseat, pole bending, barrel racing (and won), jumping, a little dressage, trail, and now in retirement she works as a therapy horse for the special olympics. This is a picture of a morgan: http://www.4wy.com/images/morgang%20by%20just%20chaos%20fkr.jpg heres and heres an article about morgans. they are special because they can be traced back to one horse. http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/horses/morgan/ and just to brag heres a picture of my horses sire: http://www.morgancolors.com/whistlejacket.jpg . Morgans are also smaller horses. My horse is 15 hands and my horse’s mother is 14.2 (which is technically considered pony size)

I encourage you to go with a free lease. I’m absolutely positive its the right thing to do.

By the way, its not a bad thing to not be knowledgeable enough. I’ve been riding horses since I was 7 years old, and I was in pony club for 4 years (they are SUPER strict and your learn A LOT) and I’m not slow, but still I have hardly scratched the surface. With horses, you never stop learning.
