Horse Rugs For Every Reason

Horse rugs for all seasons give your horse a comfortable and safe life. The rugs provide protection from annoying flies and some insects that can sometimes cause infection or illness. A factor that is vital to the health of your horse is the rug. A horse rug is sometimes called by another name, a horse blanket. Different temperatures and conditions will not bother or harm your horse because with a rug it will be have a warm and dry environment. The horse rug will cover the upper body and rear end. Straps under the chest secure the rug in place and yet will allow the animal ample movement without displacing the rug. In the front there are usually a couple of ties, again to keep it snug. Other styles may have straps that are used to ties around the back of the legs so that the rug stays in place.

Rugs can be used at any time when your horse is stabled in its stall or being pastured. It is also appropriate when you are shipping your horse to another site. Your horse will stay warm and if you have chosen a waterproof rug then your horse will certainly keep dry.

A rug is the perfect answer to hinder the development of a coat during the winter. A horse will grow this coat unless you use a rug in the following way. At the beginning of the autumn season cover your horse with a rug in a well-lit area for sixteen hours a day. This will hinder the growth of the coat. However, since winter is very cold and your horse now does not have any way of isolating itself from the cold, you must be sure to blanket the horse at all times in order to keep the chill away and to maintain a healthy, warm, and dry horse.

The rugs are not made of very tough material. The reason being is that it is much safer if the rug material rips rather than getting entangled in something and have the horse stumble or fall and sustain serious injury.

The choice of rugs that you can purchase are many. There are a variety of weights that are perfect for different temperatures. A rug that is too dense could lead to the horse sweating causing discomfort. A light rug may not be ideal for weather that is too cold as it will not keep the horse warm enough.

A stable rug is ideal for the time spent in the stall. This rug would protect your horse from flies and insects, which can cause disease. It also keeps your horse clean while in the stable.

When the coat has been shortened the turnout rug is ideal. The fabric breathes and is resistant to water. You will have a horse that is dry and warm. In summer or during the long winter there are rugs available in different weights. The coat is also sensitive to sun and may bleach out so a turnout rug has many benefits in or out of the stable.

Another rug is called the Mangotherapy rug. This rug is very practical before exercise in order to limber up the muscles. After exercise a cooling down period is needed and this rug is very advantageous. Since it increases circulation and reduces inflammation it is also beneficial speeding up the healing process when a horse is injured.

There is also the under rug. This is used under other rugs to provide added warmth.

dont forget the horse haha,
alos i use a hood so my mares bands dont come loose. You may also want to pack some quick wipes for horses. They are just show sheen in wipe forms. its a quick fix when your in the ring and the judge isnt looking, to fix up a small dirt spot or something (a MUST for white horses) Also vasiline on the nose makes your horse look very good, but not to much or he will look greesy, and dont let him nudge you !

but you will want good grain and hay, a measuring tape that measures weight. Also ointments such as hypataine will come in handy for small scrapes. Plus if you did miss anything, you will realize as you go along.
