My horse peels herself out of her blanket?

My mare has learned a new trick…she peels herself out of her sheets/blankets like a banana. She does this even if it has the cross-surcingles and leg straps. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions on how to keep my blankets from ending up torn up in the mud?

Maybe a girth strap would help. Make sure you’re attaching all the buckles correctly, and make sure the blanket is the correct size for your horse.

Your horse might be peeling herself out of the blanket because she is too warm. Keep in mind that horses don’t get as cold as people do outside. Just because you’re chilly does not neccessarily mean your horse is. She shouldn’t sweat with her blanket on.

She might just be bored. Give her toys to play with or some extra hay to munch on.
