What size blanket do I need for pony?

I just got a call that my pony needs a blanket. Where she is at (the new stables will not be ready for another 2 weeks) says she is already cold. During the nights, it is getting to the mid 40′s and for the next couple of nights, it’s expected to be 30′s and even below.

I don’t know what size blanket for her or even what kind. She is a 2 1/2 year old QH about 11hh and 350 lbs.

The blankets have a number (I assume inches) and I don’t know if it needs to be a turnout, lightweight or even med weight. Does it need to be a sheet or a blanket. I know that it needs to repel water (it rains all winter here). Even the dew here is enough to soak her down.

Some help with knowing what to look for would be appreciated. I will be buying from ebay as the only 3 sources here do not carry anything along that line. Most horses here are not blanketed at all.

I wouldn’t buy off Ebay- you can’t return it. Measure your horse, enough people gave correct instructions how to do this. Then find a horse about the size of your horse and introduce yourself and ask if you can try their blanket on your horse. There is alot of variance between the different brands’ sizes. My 16hh usually wears a 78, but she does have on 76. Make sure it is waterproof if it rains alot, and not repellant! Nothing causes a sicker horse than a wet blanket. If your blanket does get wet, pull it! Your horse is warmer without a blanket than with a wet one. Throw it in the dryer, and when it stops raining throw it back on. If you want inexpensive and waterproof look into the duck canvas blanket by Wrangler, but DON”T wash it it will loose its waterproof oils. If you are real short on cash buy something cheap now and invest at the end of winter when all blankets go on spring clearance. If it is getting below 30, get at least 300D insulation. I’d get at least 600-1200D personally, but you do pay for this. If you are willing to invest about $300, then I would get a Big D or Weatherbeeta. They have each lasted me 6+ winters.
