I just ordered a Tough1 Heavy Weight 600D Waterproof Poly Camo Blanket today.I’ve heard a lot of good things about them and they have everything i want. Open front (my horse freaks out with the closed front going over his head), waterproof (extremely wet winters and he’s turned out all day), criss-crossed leg and belly straps (my horse acts like a houdini and can some how get his leg straps on the outside of his legs…dunno how cause the barn owner says he’s never gotten a leg stuck lol) and it also has the flexibility for a playful five year old that I wanted . Sorry bout my rant but my question is have any of you used a blanket with the Tough1 brand? and rated to human jackets/coats how thick is a 600D fill? I’ve heard it’s pretty thick but is it like a triple thick ski coat, a standard everyday coat, or just a thin fleece jacket? I’m just curious. Also what is your favorite brand of blanket? Thanks!!!! and this is strictly your opinion be as blunt as you want
600D really terms out how durable it is, a 1200 would be better but weatherbeeta makes a 1600+D which is really good but about $200 called tristar
most of my horses have 600D blankets and have no problem with them, they are just easier to rip
he probably gets his leg through it when he’s laying down and when he goes to stand up the strap slips over his hoof, i would make sure you have the ones that are elastic so that if he does get his leg hung up one day it will be able to stretch out, and make sure they are tight, you should be able to get a hands width between the leg and strap
my favorite brand of blanket is weatherbeeta, they are pretty nice blankets
6 of my horses have this brand but i also have a royal caliber blanket for my 7th horse
but i would not go with royal caliber, they are a kind of cheap make
