horse turnouts, sheets, and winter blankets…?
ive gotten my horse a sheet in the pat, and the 2nd time he used it he ripped it to shreds, ive heard turnouts work better but i dont wanna spend 50 dollars again and have it broken right away, i understand they r horses and its part of it but still…
now that winters coming my horse needs a winter coat… do they work? how much should i spend on it?!
and also whered u get yours? any good sites?
i live in mn, and my horse lives ith 15 other horses and isnt at the top of the herd so he pry wont get as much hay in the winter as the others, so i figured a blanket would be good.. but thanks 
well, i had the same problem with my gelding. if he tears at the turnout sheet, you are probably better off saving your money and NOT buying a winter blanket. i spent a lot on one, top of the line, only to find the first day he had ripped apart the whole front of the blanket. i repaired it myself, (hours!) and the next time, same thing. i repaired it one more time, sprayed it with bitter apple, which worked for a day but, back to the tearing. he is a big mouthy, mischievous boy and he ended up destroying it, even managing to rip apart the tail cover. in hindsight i realize that it’s probably not necessary. if you do not clip your horse you are probably better off without a blanket. horses are tougher than you realize, if you think about it they managed to survive and evolve as a species without turnout rugs. big companies have managed to get into our heads and make us think we NEED these things or we are bad horse parents. let him grow a big wooly coat, and he’ll be just fine. but, do some research for winter riding and never put him away sweaty. make sure he is completely dry before turning him out.
