Black tack in the show ring?

right now i am looking at buying a black thoroughbred (completely jet black with no markings). i am completely OCD about matching colors and i am going to dress him in all red (boots wraps blankets ear net etc) and i want to get him black tack. (brown tack on a black horse with red gear would clash very badly…) so my question is can you wear black tack in jumper and eventing shows? i know it is frowned on in hunters. thanks!

Normally for most shows the judges don’t care what color tack you use, as long as its safe and actual tack. Jumpers is judged on speed mostly. I don’t think they’d take off for black tack, unless the judge was really picky or not judging correctly. Definitely in the hunter ring you would get points taken off. If you’re never ever ever going to show hunters EVER then you can get black tack. The right shade of black tack is kind of hard to find though. Like matching and such. I like my leather to match colors. I could care less about the polos and pads, but it makes me mad when I ride another pony and the bridle is red and my tack is brown!!

Maybe you can look at some brown saddles and take one on trial and try it on and see how it looks. I don’t think it looks that bad. My friend has a black horse and she used brown tack. Maybe you can even look for a reddish brown color. I think black tack would clash personally, but thats just me.
