I just bought a 3 yr old POA mare, 13 hnds. I am an adult but only 5’2″ tall and 130lbs. She is too big for pony tack (so am I) and too small for horse tack. I ride in a 15 western saddle normally but the saddle is too long for her back , by and inch or two. Any suggestions on what might fit her and me? I was thinking maybe a Abetta saddle with the barrel racing , round back…or going english (I have ridden english before). She will ride in a full cheek or hunter dee snaffle , but the bridles are either too small or too big. She seems to be in between sizes on everything. What can I do? Has anybody had this same problem finding tack for a large pony?
by the way ..so you can get an idea of her head and body size….she weighs around 650-700 lbs and a yearling horse halter fits her.
the tree of a horse saddle(semi-QH bars) fits her fine its just the length is too long.

Been there, done that, many times.
Cob size will fit if you can find it.
Often I would buy pony bridles that would go up in size to fit a full size horse but wouldn’t go small enough to fit the small pony it was supposed to be sized to fit.
Go to the biggest tack store you can find so that you have a lot of saddles and bridles you can actually look at. Measure your ponies head and back with pieces of string that you can take to the tack shop with you. Then measure the saddles and bridles to see if they will fit. If necessary ask it you can take the tack home and try it out. Most won’t let you but some will if you bring the tack back in the same condition it went out. Take a sheet and put it over your pony before you try on the saddle so it doesn’t get dirty. But the string trick works almost as well.
